Dothor
Damiyaon wins popular acclaim in Kuwait

Konkani Drama lovers in Kuwait were
treated to a feast of theatrical excellence when KCWA
presented "Dothor Damiyaon" at the Indian Arts Circle on
Thursday the 25th April 2002. Translated by George Pinto, and
Directed by Lancy Rodrigues the drama had a cast of well known
home grown talents of KCWA who left the audience in rip roars
of laughter for the whole duration.
Damiyaon is a village simpleton who as fate might have
dictated, is forced to pose as a doctor and solve a tricky
case. The plot rakes-in enough events to leave the audience in
pools of laughter until succumbing to a surprising climax. It
is a unique experiment which clubs traditional drama
techniques with modern plots.

Playing the title role of Dothor Damiyaon, Johny Surathkal has
once again proved his abundant artistic talent. Equally
versatile in their performance were Valerian D'Souza, Steven
Machado, Rudolf D' Souza, Rinna D'Souza supported by Salvadore
D' Souza, Renny Menezes and Anil Menezes. A team of in-house
singers lead by Ronny D'Cunha who performed on and off stage
throughout the drama provided music lovers with a rare
pleasure . Undoubtedly the master piece was a song on Gujarath,
home brewed by Johny Surathkal and sung by Rony D'Cunha and
chorus. It was an impressive parade of Actors, Composers and
Singers to hit Mangalorean theater in Kuwait after a long
time.

Adrian Gomes provided the background music while Ben and Randy
duo ensured crystal clear delivery of dialogues through their
well-monitored sound system. David D'Souza and Lancy D'Souza
managed the stage arrangement.
Chief guests for the day were First secretary of Indian
Embassy Mr.Francis Xaxa who also inaugurated the souvenir and
Fr. Melwyn D'Cunha who felicitated playwright Mr. George
Pinto. President Maxim D' Mello welcomed the audience and
Vice-President Ida D'Silva gave the vote of thanks. The show
was compered by Remy D'Souza and Lancy Rodrigues.

In short, it was an excellent performance of a well-known play
by none other than KCWA talented artists. With the outstanding
performance of 'Dothor Damiyaon' being the talk of the town,
requests are coming in for a second show.
