History of Konkani to be available on VCD
A Video Compact
Disc (VCD) displaying the history of Konkani language,
produced by Asmitai Pratishthan will be released at a public
function, scheduled to be held on Saturday, December 29, at
5.30 p.m. The function will be held at the Black Box of the
Kala Academy Complex, Campal, Panaji.
Mr Mukesh
Sharma, Director of Mumbai Doordarshan Kendra will be the
chief guest at the function, which will be presided over by Mr
Audhut Timblo, chairman of the Fomento Group of Industries. Dr
V M alias Ranjan Sardessai of Houston University, USA, will be
the guest of honour. The glimpses of the VCD will also be
presented on the screen during the function, which will be
open for the general public.
The VCD displays
the history of Konkani language spanning over 10 centuries and
is capsuled in an hour. It is conceptualised, researched and
narrated in Konkani by Mr Uday Bhembre and the same is
directed and edited with visuals and background music by the
well-known poet and film producer, Mr Sudesh Lotlikar. The
history begins with the evolution of Konkani between 8th and
10th century, the important work of the missionaries for its
revival, efforts of the Portuguese to suppress and destroy it
and the period of its resurgence and recognition in the 20th
century. The one hour VCD covers all the important milestones
in the chequered history of this language.
Asmitai
Pratishthan, the producer of the CD titled 'History of Konkani
Language' is a public charitable trust dedicated to the
development of Konkani language, literature and culture. Since
its foundation in 1995, the Pratishthan has published books in
Konkani which include original works, as well as translations
of classics from other languages, besides executing an
electronic project for government of India, in the scheme of
machine-aided translation from one Indian language into
another. It has also presented Asmitai Awards for meritorious
works, in the development of Konkani language.
