Wanted: More pay and use toilets

Mangalore, November 26: According to a popular complaint, public toilets or pay and use toilets are insufficient and hard to locate, when you need them most. The members of the public have discovered this uncomfortable truth, while commuting in the main through fares of the City or while traveling from Mangalore to other towns or cities.  Hampankatta, Balmatta, Central Market and Kankanady areas, which are acknowledged commercial hubs boast of only a handful number of pay and use toilets. One such facility on GHS Road has been an investment down the drain with hardly any members visiting or utilising it.

Jyothi junction another important junction for the floating population, lacks a pay and use toilet facility. Passengers from Bangalore alighting at Jyothi junction being forced to relieve themselves behind Jyothi Petrol station or on the compound walls of a girls pre university college are common scenes. So far there has been no effort to mitigate the inconvenience of the public by powers that be.

According to a businessman who regularly commutes between Mangalore and Bangalore no pay toilets are located en route, causing severe inconvenience to passengers. "The women passengers suffer the most,” he said and added that district in charge Minister B. Ramanath Rai who is also Transport Minister should have pay and use toilets built along the highways which will immensely benefit travelers.
