Konkani story selected for national contest
 

 
Panaji, August 26: 'Katha Eka Monichi', the Konkani story written by Ms. Talpankar, has been selected for the award at a national prize competition on Literature for Neo Literates, organised by the Directorate of Adult Education of the Ministry of Human Resource Development.  The award will be presented at the International Literacy Day function, to be held at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on September 8, as intimated by Mr. Harpal Singh, Assistant Director of the National Literacy Mission.

Ms. Talpankar is a lecturer at the VNS Bandekar College of Commerce in Mapusa. She is also known for her contribution in the literary and cultural movement of Goa, as a writer as well as an actress. Her stories always throw light on the burning issues in the society.  Ms. Talpankar has also bagged several awards in acting at the state-level Konkani and Marathi drama competitions as well as in script writing at the inter-collegiate one-act play competitions.
 

 
 

The official banner was ceremoniously presented to Max Rasquinha at the Toastmasters International Convention in San Antonio, Texas,  on behalf f of the Winnes Club Toastmasters in Mangalore.  It was a grand  and colorful event that was participated by nearly 2000 delegates from all over the world that lasted for five days.  Max Rasquinha was also privileged to carry the Indian flag during the "Parade of Flags" during the opening ceremony along with 72 other flags that represented the congregation of International Toastmasters comprising of total 9200 clubs with nearly 186,000 members throughout the world.

 
The official banner will be handcarried to Mangalore at an appropriate time so as to install the same at the Winners Club  headquartered at the International Orientation Center, Margaret Villa, Mangalore.
 
Max Rasquinha also held private audience with the immediate past International President, Mr. Alfred Herzing and also the newly elected International President, Mr. Gavin Blakey with regard to future expansion of Toastmasters clubs all over India.  At present India, unfortunately,  has about one Toastmasters Club for every hundred million people.  The International President expressed keen desire that India being the largest democracy of the world and also perhaps the largest English speaking nation of the world, should rise to the occasion of establishing few hundred clubs all over the country. 

  The World of complexities require more leaders and more communicators in order to make a difference, the International President concluded in his message to Max Rasquinha, which message  is being shared with the people of Mangalore, in particular, and the people of India in general ,through the medium of the article in Daiji Dubai.
