Muscat Pangalites Annual Get-together

With great pomp and pleasure the Pangalites in Muscat celebrated their 6th
Annual day on Thursday 24th October 2002, at the Arsalan-Alwyn Restaurant Hall, Wadi-Kabir, Muscat.

The celebrations took off at 9.30 p.m. with a prayer thanking God for the graces he had showered on all Pangalites. Rev Fr. Albert D'Silva ofm.cap., the Asst. Parish Priest of Ruwi, Sts. Peter & Paul church who was the chief guest for the occasion, officiated the prayers. It was followed by a welcome address by the vibrant President of the Muscat Pangalites Shri Henry G. Martis. He cordially welcomed the chief guest and other co-Pangalites and their guests. He also paid tributes to the distinguished chief guests of the past 5 annual get-togethers. They were our ex-Pangla Parish priest Rev Fr. Vincent Monteiro for 3 years, Rev Fr. Santosh Menezes ofm.cap., and Rev. Fr. Vincent D'Souza from Mangalore Diocese, Rev.Fr. Mariraj from Mysore was also a guest of honour.



In the words of Mr.Henry Martis, a popular personality among Mangaloreans in Muscat, the get-together is an occasion for the Pangalites in Muscat to meet and greet each other. It also an opportunity to raise funds for the various projects of church and school of our Pangla parish. Above all, the get-together reminds the participants of their annual parish feast back home.

The President's speech was followed by a presentation of the flower bouquet to the Chief guest by baby Shannon & baba Shawn.

 



 

In his speech, the Chief guest Rev Fr.Albert appreciated the unity of the Pangalites in Muscat and wished them every success and choicest blessings from the Almighty God. He also spoke about the progress of Pangla people achieved during past years from the humble cultivation of Jasmine flowers to the present prosperous remittances by the non-resident Pangalites who are spread all over the world and who have ushered in bright future to their families in Pangla.






Mr. Melvin Menezes one of the committee members presented a brief history of the Pangalites in Muscat and also day today activities for the Pangala people back home. Mr. Derick Castelino another committee member proposed a vote of thanks and extended his gratitude to all, who made the evening very successful especially to Mr. Arthur Colaco of Sweets of Oman and other committee members for sponsoring the prizes.

The evening was full of fun, games, dance, gaiety, celebration and entertainment. There were attractive prizes for the spot answers to the brain tickling questions shot at regular intervals. The sumptuous buffet diner with special mouth watering, Mangaloren dishes was served by the owner of the restaurant Mr. Alwyn Saldanha. The entire programme was proficiently compered by Mrs. Lavina D'Sa accompanied by Mr. Stanley Manezes.



 

The other committee members include Mr.Henry Andrade, Mr. Melvin Menezes, Mr.Stanley Menezes, Mr.Sunil D'Sa, Mr.Derick Castelino, Mr.Remy Lobo, Mr.Vinay Nazareth, Mr.Richard Lobo, Mr.Terry D'Souza, Mrs.Lavina D'Sa, Mrs.Trecy Menezes, and Mrs.Sunitha Nazareth who greatly contributed to the success of the event.

The fun and frolic came to an end a little after midnight and everybody dispersed carrying home the sweet memories of the occasion.
