Prof. Paul Rodrigues passed away

 

Mulky, August 25: Vijaya College, Mulky Commerce professor, who served this college for the past 33 years and retired, a prominent social worker, and organiser Professor Paul Rodrigues (62) passed away due to short term illness here today at Manipal Hospital last night.  After his retirement he was serving Mangalore Meredian College as professor.  He was the active member of Mulky Lions Club for the past 32 years.  He served District 324-D4 as a cabinet secretary when Mr. Harikrishna Punarur was the district governor.  He also served Mulky church parish council and secretary of Mulky Government Hospital Poor Fund.  He left behind his wife, two sons and several relatives and friends.  Several Lions Club leaders, priests, and community leaders expressed their deep condolences for his death.

 

Kerala Historical Association:
Symposium on Konkanis


 

Manipal, August 25: Kerala Historical Association will organize a symposium on, "Konkanis and their residential places in Kerala" on August 29 at 4:00 p.m. at Ernakulam, Kerala.  Justice Mr. V. R. Krishna Iyer, retired justice of supreme court will preside over the function along with famous historians.  Mr. N. Purushothama Mallya, secretary of Konkani Prachar Sabha (R) and historian, Kochin will present a paper on Konkani History said press release.

 

Konkani Children's writer Shivdas honoured
 


Margaon, August 25: Mr. N. Shivdas, Konkani writer and winner of the NCERT National award for his children's novel "Babu", was felicitated by Deputy Speaker of the Goa Assembly Mr. Narhari Haldanker.  The function was organised by Gomantak Bhandari Samaj (GBS) and was attended by former chief minister and MLA Mr. Ravi Naik and others.  Mr. Shivdas said he has been writing since school days and his works were based on his own experiences. He has authored 12 books, including two short story collections and four plays.
