Association Celebrates "Vodlem Fest"
Pamboor Welfare Association of Emirates celebrated their Annual Day cum Vodlem Fest in Dubai on 20th December' 02 with an overwhelming audience comprising of mainly the parishioners and their friends & relatives. The auditorium at Hotel Marco Polo was fully packed with fun loving Mangaloreans showing up at the venue much before the day's events kicked off at around 11.45 am. The celebration of Vodlem Fest is truly an event that reminds us the true sense of festivities back home' on this auspicious occasion.
The program started with a prayer by Mrs. Violet Fernandes followed by the welcome dance "Zoyo Jesu Baaloka" by the teenagers under the guidance of Mrs. Reema Claudia. Mr. Santhan Alva President of PWA, in his welcome speech wished one and all happy feast and a warm welcome to the audience & the distinguished guests. The President thanked all the sponsors especially the main sponsor Mr. Leo Alva, the Managing Director of Marine & Sailors Club.
The chief guest of the day Shri. Melvyn Rodrigues, a famous Konkanni poet was honoured for his achievement in Konkanni in the recent years. Shri. Rodrigues in his speech thanked PWA for inviting him as the Chief Guest of the day and through his heart-touching Konkanni words he kept the audience spellbound throughout the speech. He elaborated on the meaning of forming an association and its benefits to the Konkanni community in various aspects.
Fr. Cyprian Peter D'souza, spiritual director of Konkanni community in U.A.E expressed happiness and wished Pamboorians a happy feast.
The cultural events started with budding talents from Pamboor performing in various events like solo & group dances, songs, skit and a tulu drama which enthralled the audience throughout the day-long programme. The performance by tiny tots is worth remembering and they proved their versatility in various fields of entertainment. The crowd enjoyed with lots of prizes, spot prizes and raffle draws.
The tulu drama "Yaan onthe paroliya" directed by Mr. Valerian Alva was indeed a true entertainment package with full of emotions & comedy. The brilliant performance from Pamboorians mainly Valerian, Kishore, Avil, Gregory, Johncy, Ashok, Sunitha and Anitha added more attraction to the day's cultural programme.
The program was ably compered by Mr. Kishore Noronha and Mrs. Sunitha Menezes who entertained the crowd with fun and instant jokes.
Nearly 350 Konkanni speaking people witnessed this program and the colorful events kept the audience glued to their seats till the end. A delicious lunchen buffet was served during the program and thus in the concluding session Mr. Dainy D'souza proposed vote of thanks.
