Konkani
literary meet concludes
A two-day, 4th
Konkani Youth Literary Meet organised by Goa Konkani Academy (GKA),
in collaboration with Government College, Sanquelim and held
at the college premises, concluded on December 17. The
principal of Narayan Zantye Commerce College, Bicholim, Mr
Arun Sakhardande was the chief guest for the valedictory
function.
The president of the meet, Mr
Prakash Paryekar presided over the function.
Prof Sakhardande, speaking on
the occasion, said that the youth should pay more attention
towards reading Konkani literature and put in additional
efforts for enriching the Konkani literature. He also
criticised the attitude of youth of being attracted to Western
culture and appealed to them to work with dedication for
enriching the culture and language.
Prof Sakhardande also urged the
youth to shoulder the responsibility of Konkani literary
movement in the state.
Mr Prakash Paryekar, in his
address, said that the Konkani youth should study the history
of Konkani language and consistently work for the flourishment
of Konkani literature. He also stressed upon the need for
reading Konkani literature by new Konkani writers.
The president of the Reception
Committee, Dr B A Gomes, president of Organising Committee,
Prof Sunita Kanekar, vice-president of Goa Konkani Academy, Mr
N Shivdas and sarpanch of Sanquelim village panchayat, Mr
Pravin Blagan were also present on the dais. Mr Shivdas, Mr
Blagan and Dr Gomes also spoke on the occasion.
The winners of poetry writing,
story writing and one-act play writing competitions, namely Mr
Yogesh Dessai, Ms Sarika Gawas, Mr Pramod Acharya, Mr Vikas
Prabhu, Mr Sadanand Satarkar, Ms Jagruti Phaldessai, Mr
Yoganand, Ms Cynthiya Mhamal, Mr William Almeida and others
were awarded prizes, by Prof Sakhardande.
Prof Sunita Kanekar proposed
the vote of thanks, while Mr Anil Vernekar and Mr Hanumant
Chopdekar compered the valedictory function.
During the first session of the
concluding day, the president of Goa Konkani Academy, Mr Uday
Bhembre delivered a speech in the programme Mulaswar and
guided the youth participants. A workshop was also held for
the participants.
Earlier, on the first day of
the meet, the veteran Malayalam writer, Mr K P Ramanunni
inaugurated the meet by lighting a lamp. Mr Uday Bhembre, Mr
Prakash Paryekar, Dr B A Gomes, Mr Ravalu alias Dada Amonkar
and Ms Sunita Kanekar were present on the dais.
Mr Ramanunni, in his inaugural
address said that a litterateur is gifted with intelligence,
which helps him to shine in different fields and walks of
life. He also appealed to the young Konkani writers to make
best use of their literary potentials and resources.
Mr Ramanunni also appreciated
the task undertaken by Goa Konkani Academy for gearing the
Konkani literary movement in the outskirts areas of the state.
He also appealed to the youth to work with dedication for the
enrichment of Konkani literature.
Prof Gomes welcomed the chief
guest and the gathering. Ms Sunita Kanekar delivered an
introductory speech, while Mr Prakash Paryekar and Mr Uday
Bhembre expressed their views.
During the second session, a
workshop for youth was held. Mr Uday Bhembre, Mr Damodar
Mavajo and Ms Sheela Kolambkar were the resource persons who
guided the participants. A poets meet and an entertainment
programmes were also held on the occasion.
Around 500 youth and Konkani
workers participated in the meet.
It was decided to organise the
5th Konkani Youth Literary Meet at Canacona, next year.
