MCC accused of favouritism in awarding security contract
Immediately Congress corporators were on their feet arguing that no foul play had taken place in awarding the contract to Falcoln agency. Former deputy mayor Lancelot Pinto, who generally avoids such arguments, passionately defending the council's action said the agency was "first class security agency." The certificate prompted Shankar Bhat wonder aloud as to why was the corporator strongly recommending the agency. MCC Mayor Shashidar Hegde after hearing the clarification from the officer concerned did not allow further arguments on the matter and passed the Bill amid stiff opposition. Earlier, corporators cutting across party lines criticized the bureaucracy's lethargic attitude towards issuing door numbers. Congress Corporator Mahabala said in case of the poor the department quoted the rulebook and subjected them to incessant harassment, while in the case of the rich all rules were flouted. All India
Christian Council calls ban on Sangh Parivar
Christian Council calls for an international ban on Sangh Parivar outfits. Christian Council and their fraternal partners worldwide will appeal to democratic nations to ban the neo-Nazi outfits of the Sangh Parivar especially the VHP and Bajrang Dal. There is no place in today's Global context for such violent and terrorising neo-Nazi groups. Christian Council deeply disturbed by yet another violent attack on the Christian Bishop Joseph Cooper of USA in Thiruvanthapuram by activists of the RSS. The All India Christian Council has watched with deep horror at the growing culture of hate and violence propagated by the Sangh Parivar against the minorities in light of the results of the Gujarat elections. The open statements of the VHP's Praveen Togadia on arming their cadres by the giving of Trishuls, the brazen statements on turning India into a theocratic nation, the elaboration of the Modi brand of Hindutva by BJP leaders such as Mr. Venkaiah Naidu and his constant attack on the freedom of religion is fast pushing this nation to the brink of insanity and mindless violence. The attack on Bishop Joseph Cooper is the direct result of Mr. Venkaiah Naidu's repeated shrill diatribe against the freedom of religion. The Christian Council is not at all surprised by the attack on Bishop Joseph Cooper and Pastor Benson. The hate campaign has resulted in the sporadic violence in Kerala and other parts of the nations against Christian preachers and Christian institutions. It is the complete silence of the Central Government especially the Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister when such events occur in the nation that is bringing about this religious anarchy. The nation and the Global community has yet to hear a word of condemnation of events such as the public honoring of the mother of Dara Singh the killer of Graham Staines by the VHP at a function in New Delhi. The Christian Council deeply regrets that it is the culture of hate and violence unleashed by the Sangh Parivar outfits that is fast destroying the credibility of Hinduism as one of the great Global religions. The Sangh Parivar is shrinking the space of Hinduism as a Universal religion. The blame fully lies on the leaders who are indulging in the words and deeds of "Religious Extremists." India's high moral ground in being the champion of democratic values and freedom is steadily being eroded by these divisive extremists. It is important to note the BJP President's propaganda against religious freedom since the Gujarat elections. Note also the repeated Neo-Nazi slogan of "cultural nationalism" in opposition to the slogan of 'Indian nationalism,' which have been the bedrock of the freedom struggle and the rise of the great modern Indian State. The time has come for these violent neo-nazi outfits of the Sangh to be banned by the democratic nations of the world especially in the present Global context of terror. The killing and terrorizing of innocent people within a nation by extremist groups is 'terrorism' as defined and understood by the Global community. In view of the fact that the present political leadership in India is paralyzed to act against the crimes of the outfits of the Sangh Parivar it is imperative that the global community begins to ban these outfits in their nations. Repeatedly the Christian community has appealed to the present Government to stop the hate campaign against the Christian community by the activists of the Sangh Parivar but there has been absolutely no response. The leaders of the Christian Council have observed the attempts by the Prime Minister to distance him from the monster of religious fundamentalism that is threatening to devour the democratic institutions of the nation and the great history of the Hindu civilization. The leadership expresses its support to the Prime Minister in all of his efforts to contain the forces of destruction in the nation.
