New Women's Bill of Right - Philomena Peris

Mangalore, November 16: Women's Bill of Right which was passed in last 2001 December has several loop holes, women will not get justice because of these loop holes said Karnataka State Women's Commission president Mrs. Philomena Peris accused here and said that new Women's Bill of Right will be introduced to the government very soon.  With the help of this total bill of right women who become victims of circumstances will see justice she said.  She was speaking at Prajna Salaha Kendr at Kankanady, Mangalore which arranged two days workshop on Women's Empowerment.  Litterateur Mrs. Sarah Aboobakar inaugurated the workshop.  Similar workshops will be organised all over the state to enlighten and educate women and collect their views and then a final draft for the bill will be made said Mrs. Philomena Peris.

In 1995 first family court was established in Karnataka State, now we have 9 family courts in existence; we should have one family court for every district she said.  She expressed her unhappiness towards current family courts the way they execute cases.  Rape and other cases should not be held in-camera.  In Maharashtra state family courts are working fine, Karnataka also follow the steps of Maharashtra and we are planning in implementing same standards said Mrs. Peris.

There accusations from women in Mysore that family court heads involved in sexual harassment's over there.  Regarding this Women's Forum will request immediate justice and ask to take further actions on suspects she said to media people.  Current women's legislation is not giving equal justice to all women in common.  Divorced Muslim women are troubled with this legislation, we need a legislation which treats all women equally said Mrs. Aboobakar.

Against women's empowerment we all should work together and walk together to find all facilities to achieve justice then only justice will prevail said Prajna Salaha Kendra director Prof. Hilda Rayappan. 

 

Dr. Edward Lobo felicitated by Gov. of Karnataka

Bangalore, November 16: Pambur Rehabilitation and Training Centre received Karnataka State Award for the year 2002 for its services in the development of children.  On November 14, during Children's Day Celebrations at Bangalore Cubban Park Jawahar Bala Bhavan's decorated ceremony, Manava Institution's president and managing trustee Dr. Edward Lobo was felicitated with a shawl by Karnataka State Governor Mr. T. N. Chathurvedi and gave the award.  For this programme Karnataka Public Education Department Commissioner Mr. V. P. Baligar was also present.

 

District primary and high school sports meet:
Cresina Maria Pais bags championship

Bantwal, November 16: South Kanara District level primary and high school level sports meet was held at Bantwal S.V.S. sports grounds.  Puttur taluk bagged overall championship by getting 120 points under 17 years old boys and girls sports competition.  Individual championships went to under 17 years boys, Sachin Nayak, Rosario High School, Mangalore and under 17 years girls Cresina Maria Pais of St. Agnes High School and Meenakshi B. of Bettampady Navodaya High School.

Boys championship went to Puttur Philomena High School and girls championship to St. Agnes High School, Bendur, Mangalore.  Under 14 years boys championship was earned by Madandhyar Guardian Angel High School's Vincent Varghese and girls championship went to Varsha Rajaram of Lady Hill High School, Mangalore.  Boys group champions were SDM Kannada Medium, Ujire and Madanthyar Guardian Angel High School, girls group champions Lady Hill High School, Mangalore and Little Flower School, Bajpe.

 

MP launches development works of Rs... 60,000 crore

 

Mangalore, November 17: The Central Government out of its concern for the welfare of farmers, provided top priority to construction of rural links roads and bridges to enable transport of farm produces easily and the BJP led Central Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had sanctioned Rs. 60,000 crore for a massive rural roads and bridges construction programme (Gramin Sadak Yojana) during the course of seven years said V. Dhananjaya Kumar, MP at Ullal near here.

He was speaking after launching several development projects worth Rs. 35 lakh including rural road and bridge programmes at Purursharakodi at Konaje, Baiderlachila of Pavoor Village, Devipura of Talapady and drinking water schemes at Bagambila and Kondana of Kotekar village.  Former MLA K. Jayarama Shetty who was the chief guest on the occasion stressed the need for peoples participation for the success of development programmes taken up by the government MLA U. T. Fareed was in the chair.

Zilla Panchayath member Kalavathi, Taluk Panchayath member Pushpa Shetty, Village Panchayath presidents Achutha Gatti, Mohammed and Chandravathi, BJP Block Committee president K. K. Poojary, vice president Ravindraraj Ullal, Councillors Dinesh Gatti and Laxmana Ulla and Charan Raj and others were present. Seetharama Poonja welcomed the gathering, Sudarshana Bhat proposed a vote of thanks.


 

Syndicate Bank cuts lending rates
 


 

Mangalore, November 17: The Syndicate Bank has announced a reduction in its Prime Lending (PLR) and Prime Term Lending (PTLR) rates by 50 basis points from the prevailing 12% to 11.50%, effective from November 1.  With this, the banks; interest rates on housing loans will further go down touching a minimum rate of 9% for a housing loan of five years tenure, 9.5% for housing loans repayable over five years upto 10 years and 10% for housing loans for over 10 years upto 20 years.

The Bank has also reduced its maximum spread over the prime lending rates by full 100 basis points from 4% to 3%. This reduction of one percent taken together with the 0.5% cut in prime lending rates is expected to substantially lower the interest costs for the customers from the business policy initiatives in the recent past, expects the reduction in lending rates to benefit a large section of its client base of over 20 million customers.  On the technology front, the bank has rolled out Centralised Banking Solution (CBS) in 16 branches spread across eight cities being the first PSB to launch CBS.
 

Govt to waive Rs. 127 crore interest on agricultural lending
 



 


Belthangady, November 17: The Government has decided to waive Rs. 127 crore interest on agricultural lending considering the monsoon failure and fall in the prices of agriculture produce, said H. Vishwanath, Minister for Co-operation.  Presiding over the inaugural function of the ‘Uthkrushta Towers’, a four-storeyed complex of South Kanara District Central Co-operative Bank (SKDCC Bank) at Belthangady on Saturday, Vishwanath said co-operation, good ruling and hard work ensures social development. He also explained the government schemes for women empowerment such as Yashaswini and other health projects.

Inaugurating the hospital building at Laila, Dr. Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala stressed on the need of informing public and farmers on the importance of co-operation. He said ‘Siri’ a SKDRDP-sponsored sales outlet, which would be opened near Laila, will boost the concept of women empowerment.  MLA K. Prabhakar Bangera inaugurated the computerised business of the SKDCC Bank at Belthangady. Former Minister K. Gangadhar Gowda inaugurated the new conference hall named after Bantwal Narayan Nayak. South Kanara Zilla Panchayath President Jyothi R. Salian declared opened the safe deposit lockers.
