"SOBHANN NITE" - A MEMORABLE PERFORMANCE BY 'MANDD SOBHANN' IN DUBAI

Our mother tongue celebrated one of its most glorious and hilarious events
of its history, when Kalaangann Abhiyaan Samiti in co-ordination with St.
Mary's Konkani Community, Dubai successfully carried out an auspicious "Sobhann
Nite" - a memorable performance by "Mandd Sobhann", the crown of Konkani
culture and language.
There was an overwhelming response to this programme, as Dubai's St. Mary's
Parish Main Hall was jam packed with konkani's appreciates who applauded to
each moment of the programme, as it was performed by the well-known of
musicians of 'Mandd Sobhann' - Eric, Joyce, Rashmi - Alwyn, Rithesh, Adolph
Jayathilak and their team. Mind blowing dance performances by "Nach Sobhann"
was an added feather to the crown.

The programme started at 8:15pm with a song titled 'maan mhoji', a song
written by Melvyn Rodrigues, to sing the glory and brightness of our mother
tongue. Soul stirring melodies like 'Hye Renven', 'Suryachim Kirnnam', 'Rozline',
'Sallkachi Paklli' were sung by Mandd Sobhann which drowned the audience
into the lowest depths of sentiments whereas songs like 'Gittarachi Taar', 'Hanv
Saiba Polthoddi Vetam', 'Ujea Vegemth', 'Thonier Thoni', 'Paimzonnam', 'Roji
Bai' made the crowd tap thin feet to the unique baila beats and other dance
numbers. Also there was much more to enjoy, like "Tujem Ghor Khoim", "Festa
Santek", "Shenddo" which made the audience laugh to the comic lyrics and
music and there much still more: "Kesar Kollo" and half hours non stop baila,
which made the crowd to get up and dance to the typical tunes of our folk
music.

The programme was compered by Walter Nandalike, who by his attractive and
rich selective words, held up the crowd to the zenith of enthusiasm till the
last second. Adding to this exuberance were some short comedy skits by Dayan
D'Souza and group, which were indeed added masala to the ingredients.
Dignitaries like Fr. Cyprian D'Souza - Spiritual Director of St. Mary's
Community Dubai, Mr. Mark Denis D'Souza - Chairman of Kalaangann Abhiyaan
Samiti, Mr. Francis Fernandes Cascia, Mr. James Mendonca and Mr. Franky
D'Souza were present. They were presented with mementos by Vishwa Konkani
Kalaratn Eric Ozario. Speaking during the occasion Fr. Cyprian D'Souza gave
a call to all Goans and Mangaloreans to join together for the cause of
Konkani. Mr. Mark D'Souza thanked all the sponsors and the volunteers for
their contribution for the success of the show. Mr. Eric Ozario thanked the
Abhiyaan Samiti and St. Mary's Konkani Community for taking up the cause of
Kalaangann.

All in all, the event was a grand success, which was indeed much more worthy
than its ticket fare. Every individual could have been seen leaving the
place with his / her face full of charming smile of happiness and heart full
of adoration towards a great term called "Konakani".
