Konkani Academy awards for Mick Max, Kishu Barkur & Stan Ro Kuwait

The Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy's annual award for the dramatics category of books for 2001-02 has been bagged by Michael Maxim D'Souza - better known by his pen-name Mick Max for his book , Teen Tiatr (" Three plays").

The Academy's awards for other categories have gone to Stan Ro Ajekar for his novel "Shirap" and Kishoo Barkur for his collection short stories Rupnnim".

A one - time sub-editor and film feature editor of the much popular Kannada daily of the yesteryear, Navabharat, Mick Max has long been a short story writer, novelist, playwright, poet, columnist, singer, music-writer and an accomplished master of ceremonies. It may be recalled here that two of his novels have won the Goa Konkani Academy awards for literary excellence in the past. Besides, he has brought out two audio cassettes containing the best of his popular Konkani songs.
The book Teen Tiatr, produced by Rahul Communications, contains the choicest three of the Konkani plays penned by Mick Max. His plays have created a genre in Konkani Writing, in that book itself reads well as a collection of short stories. His plays are known for a strong social message, topical satire and gripping suspense. One of his more recent plays, Pattim Pollenaka ("Don't Look Back") has stood first in state-level and national - level drama competitions conducted earlier this year.


Kishu Barkur (Kishor Gonsalves)  well known for his short stories and poems, is an active member of Daijidubai (Emirates Konkani writers) and he is designing and maintaining Konkani script pages on Daijidubai.com. Kishu is also the creator of barkur.com a website very popular among the Barkurians living world wide.

Stan-Ro Ajekar, presently working in Kuwait is an active member of Konkani Kullar Kuwait. His short stories are publishing regularly on Konkani periodicals.

 

 

Konkani Elocution and Composition competition

 



Mangalore, October 15: As a part of Late U. Srinivasa Mallya's birth centenary, with the help of various associations, in the month of November will be holding Konkani elocution and Composition competitions fro High School, College students and public sections. All three category winners, each will receive first prize Rs. 500, second Rs. 300 and third Rs. 200.

Composition subject is: "Ullal Srinivas Mallya Jeevith ani karyam". Composition should be not more than 400 words, be written on one side of the paper, should reach before November 2. Address to send is: President, Srinivasa Paata Shaala, V. T. Road, Mangalore 575 001.

Elocution competition subjects are: For High School students: Konkani Bhaas ani Sanskriti; PUC and College students: Adarsh Mukhandaale Loxann; for public: Deshaanthule aiche raajakeeya ani samajik parishthithi-naagarikaalem paatr. These competition will be held at: Nalanda Sabhaghar on November 9 and 10. Time for the competition is 5 minutes maximum. Prizes will be distributed on November 10 during centenary celebrations.
