On Saturday, September 14, 2002, sizable Konkani lovers in Chicago gathered to discuss forming a new association to bring all Mangloreans under one roof and to promote culture. All the members voted to name the new association as ‘Mangalorean Konkan Christian Association’. Members applauded with extreme satisfaction for forming a new association. The new executive committee was formed and selected unanimously. The new office bearers are: President – Mr. Austin D’Souza Prabhu, Vice President – Jacintha D’Souza, Secretary – Lawrence Mascarenhas, Treasurer – Godwin Rego, Youth Coordinator – Frank Dias, and Public Relations – Queenie Mendonca. There was a concern about ICAA (Indian Catholic Association of America, Chicago). Although ICAA is not a 100% Mangalorean Association nor it promotes our culture, everyone agreed to keep our present membership with ICAA and to continue our support. In the meantime, MKCA will work together to bring all Mangaloreans under one roof to promote our culture and traditions. MKCA’s Mission is: “To promote, cultivate, maintain and preserve Konkani heritage, culture, tradition & language, and also, to instill & nurture educational and professional development of younger generation.” On this occasion, Professor Frank Dias raised a toast by thanking Lord and Monthi Mai for their blessings and for making us realize what we have lost so far. He said that this is the right thing to do to promote our culture. Thanked Austin and his family for their support and contribution in organizing and also other people who helped to promote culture. He also said that we should get our children get excited about our tradition and culture. Prof. Dias concluded the toast saying that we have formed something good so that we can give back to our children our culture & tradition. MKCA will be celebrating Christmas on Saturday, December 21, 2002. Members concluded the meeting by singing old Konkani Folk songs and Lavdathe. Our Chicago correspondent
