MELODIOUS KONKANNI SINGING IN MUSCAT

As part of their annual programme to promote and to spread sweetness of our dear 'maaibhaas Konkanni' to the next generation, Mangalorean Catholic Centre of the Ruwi Parish (M.C.C.P.) arranged a Konkanni Singing Competition to it's members at the Ruwi Parish Hall on 15th January, 2003.

The response was really encouraging. Over 50 participants, young and old participated in this unique competition. The program commenced at 8.30 p.m. with a welcome speech by Shri Leo Quadros, the M.C.C.P. president followed by a prayer officiated by Guest of honour, Rev.Fr.Albert D'Silva ofm.cap., the asst. parish priest of Ruwi Church.

Smt.Helen Carvalho, the general secretary of M.C.C.P. and Shri Naveen Mascarenhas, the cultural secretary of M.C.C.P. compered the event, calling out names of the participants and their order of participation in the programme, which was followed by a feast of sweet Konkanni music to the ears of the full house audience. The hall was filled with the sound of singing till the end. Every participant gave a melodious, impressive song in Konkanni. The tiny tots singing in their chaste, angelic voice and the adults singing in their trained, cultured voice enthralled the music loving audience.

No doubt, the judges had a difficult time in deciding the winners because of the close competition. Shri Oswald Soares and Shri Lancy Pinto announced the winner's list at the close of the event. The winners were the following:

The event came to a close with a vote of thanks by Smt.Helen Carvalho.
