of Mount Carmel Institute of Management hold candles while taking oath on
the ninth annual convocation ceremony in Bangalore

It was that one moment they had been waiting for. The days of hard work had
finally paid dividends for the forty-odd students of the Mount Carmel
Institute of Management for Post Graduate Diploma in Management who were
honoured with awards in academics at the ninth annual convocation ceremony
at the College auditorium today. Several awards were distributed to
the rank holders for their outstanding academic performance. Minister of
State for IT and Tourism D. B. Inamdar, who was the chief guest, commended
the students and said, "You should aspire for nothing less than the
best."
This year, the Carmelites saw in themselves the birth of future managers and
entrepreneurs who will soon be out there to conquer the world. Promising to
be one of them is Shoba T S who bagged four gold medals and the Subba Rao
Golden Jubilee Endowment Prize. Aarthi Deshpande, Maya Ramakrishnan and
Shruthi Anand were among the others honoured for their remarkable
achievements. Awarded for best academic performance in Human Resource
Management was Chajjer Pallavi S. Jain while Sowmya L. Nayak took away the
prize for the 'community conscious student'.
Delivering the convocation address, Mr. Jacob Kurian, Chief Operating
Officer, Tanishq, Titan Industries Ltd, said that all people in the world
should develop an attitude for always being ready to learn and that
life-long learning will always keep one at his best.
Advanced
courses in DNA technology at St. Joseph’s College
Bellary,

newly set up St.
Joseph's
Institute of Gene Technology (SJIGT), a subsidiary of the St.
Joseph's
College, will offer advanced courses in the areas of recombinant DNA
technology, gene cloning and bio-informatics in collaboration with the Netherlands
based WageningenUniversity.
These web-interactive courses, which will be conducted, evaluated and
certified by Wageningen
University
through the Internet, were launched at a function here today.
Dr. Rommert Vanden Bos, programme director, biotechnology, WageningenUniversity
said the courseware has been uniquely designed to facilitate interactive
learning and customised imparting of skills to students. The easy-to-handle
content includes graphics, visual display and questions-based learning that
encourage student curiosity and comprehension, he said. The courseware
will be run on global e-learning standards that encompass question and text
interface and operability, as well as instruction management systems, Dr.
Bos said.
WageningenUniversity
was founded i n 1918. In recent years it has evolved into one of the world's
leading education and research centres in plant, animal, environmental,
agro-technological, food and social sciences. The launch in the city is in
association with its Indian enabling partner Centre for Life Technologies.
Presently, SJIGT is offering three courses - a three-month simple cloning
lab, a six-month bio-informatics technology course and a one-year diploma in
