outlook of the Mangalore City corporation"said Rev.Ronald Cutinha, Director
of Institute for Social Development,(ISD) Mangalore on 5th August during the
MCC Employee Training Programme at the ISD premises.
Mrs. Hilda Alva, Corporator and ex-Mayor inaugurated the Training programme
in capacity building attitudinal change and self-confidence, organised by
KUIDFC . The Training is imparted by Erin Consultants and Rank Winners of
Bangalore.
Mr.Made Gowda and Asst.Commissioner of the Corporation Mr. Chowdhary were
also present.

PINTO
TO PRESENT PAPER IN HEIDELBERG

Rev. Dr. Pius Fidelis Pinto who presented a paper on the "Konkani Christians
Peasants and Thomas Munro in South Canara" at the 16th European Conference
on Modern South Asian Studies, at the University of Edinburgh, U.K. on
September 05, 2000, has been invited to the 17th European Conference on
Modern South Asian Studies to be held at the University of Heidelberg in
Germany from September 09 to 14, 2002. Dr. Pinto will present the paper on
the "Konkani Christians in Coastal Karnataka during the Colonial Period -
1800-1947".
A noted research scholar, Rev. Dr. Pinto has authored several books on the
history of the Christians in Coastal Karnataka. He has been awarded the 2001
Danti Memorial Award for his book Karawali Karnatakada Kraistara Ithihasa
(1500-1763). He has also been awarded the 2002 Dr. T.M.A Pai Foundation
Award for his book Desanthar Thaun Bandhadek. The Kerala State Konkani
Catholic Foundation honoured him with the "Jnananidhi" award for his
dedicated work.
One of the founders of the NGO Samanvaya, Dr. Pinto is at present in London,
continuing his research work
