KCWA hosts Children's Christmas Tree.



Kuwait Canara Welfare Association held its annual Christmas Tree celebration at the Indian Arts Circle on 6th Dec. 2002. Members and their families enjoyed the daylong session assembled by the artistic talents of KCWA.

The morning session of the program contained Fancy dress competition and a Kid's fashion contest, which was well enjoyed by the audience. A panel of judges selected the best of the contestants. The chief guests for the day were Mr. Francis Xaxa, second secretary to the Indian Embassy, Mr. & Mrs. Sam and Mable Alphonso, Mr & Mrs. Allen and Jackie Alphonso, Ex-president Mr.Lawrence Pinto, Mr. Charles D'Sa and Fr. Melwyn D' Cunha who gave away prizes to the winners of the Talent Competitions held in Sept/October-02 and also the winners of the day's contests. To be felicitated on the occasion were well-known singing sensation Rony D' Cunha and KCWA committee member Mr. Pascal Monteiro. Mr. Rony D' Cunha, with his rich God-gifted talents in Music, has made significant contribution to KCWA's cultural activities since his arrival in Kuwait 4 years ago. Mr. Pascal Monteiro has an outstanding record of handling member's affairs for KCWA, as a result of which the membership crossed the thousand mark.

 



KCWA's yearly scholarships were awarded to the deserving students of class X and XII.
The merit scholarship sponsored by Mr & Mrs. Sam & Mable Alphonso as well as Mr & Mrs. Lawrence and Anne D'souza, has been a popular part of KCWA's effort to encourage excellence in education in Mangalore as well as in Kuwait.

Bringing alive the Christmas theme was skit for the day 'Gordanacho goto (The Crib) ' written and directed by Cultural Secretary Mr. Lancy Rodrigues and enacted by well known artistes Stevan Machado, Jovita Fernandes, Rudy, Anil Menezes and Cameo Serrao. The closing sequence of the skit featured a group song composed by Lancy Rodrigues and sung by the team of KCWA singers comprising of Rony, Gratian, Jasmine, Leo, Joly, Jovita, Joe, Lancy, Jerry, Melwyn, Veena, Venisha, Kavitha, Namitha, Rita, Renny and Agnes. Veteran Musician, Mr. Adrian Gomes, played music for the song.



As noon arrived it was time for children of the tinsel world dressed in shining red and green to sway and swing to the tune of Konkani carols. Choreographed by Flavia D'souza, the dream like sequence culminated into the arrival of Santa who merrily went on giving away goodies, dancing to the beat of DJ MIX. The whole show was interspersed with choreography by youngsters, jokes by Johny Surathkal and team and even a short poetry session by playwright of Dothor Damiyaon fame, Mr. George Pinto Aikal.



Ceasars served delicious lunch. The afternoon session had many surprises in store as a score of gifts were given away in housie, raffle draw and member's lucky draw.
Compeering was done by Robert Castelino, Stevan Machado and Johny Surathkal along with a line up of junior compeers early in the day. President Mrs.Ida D'Silva welcomed the Guests and audience and General secretary Mrs. Dulcine Coelho gave the vote of thanks.

New entry in Kuwait's Band scene 'DJ MIX' enthralled the dance lovers with their unique combination of DJ and live music, both Konkani and Western. David D' Souza provided the stage settings.
