St. Aloysius College Vice Principal visiting USA & Canada

Chicago, October 8:
Fr. Denzil Lobo, SJ, Vice Principal of St. Aloysius College, Mangalore to visit North America in the third week of October, 2002.  Mr. Vinod Menezes (NJ), Mr. Tony D'Silva (NY) and Mr. Praveen Lobo (NJ), Vivek Veigas (Canada) , Dr. Rama Rao (Canada)  have invited His main goal for this visit is:

1. Discussions with Loyola University, Chicago, administration on the modalities of the TWINNING PROGRAM. We have planned to twin with Loyola for the MS course in Business Information Systems. There are very positive indications and willingness from their side to have this program. Invited their team to come and visit St. Aloysius in January 2003.

2. The second purpose is to attend gatherings of Aloysians at various locations in the US and Canada. So many students form St. Aloysius are working or studying in the US. It is time that all come together and form strong links with the Alma Mater, St Aloysius College.

3. To make use of the opportunity to raise funds for the PROJECTS in hand.  Dr. Narayanamurthy, CEO of Infosys unveiled the Foundation stone of the IT-Building to house PG courses in Computer Science on 24 Dec 2001. Mr. Tony D'Silva and Praveen Lobo have prepared PROJECT PROPOSAL to be presented to FUNDING AGENCIES in US. The estimated cost of the projects is 11 crores.

4. In 2005, St. Aloysius College will be celebrating the 125th anniversary of the college. We would like as many to visit St Aloysius then and participate in the celebrations. St.  Aloysius will be AUTONOMOUS or DEEMED UNIVERSITY by that time. Also, like to see the whole campus taking a new shape...with modern facilities for the next generation of students...

5. Mangalore is becoming hub for IT related activities. On 19 Sept, the SOFTWARE TECHNOLOGY PARK was inaugurated. Excellent infrastructure is available in Mangalore for entrepreneurs to establish DEVELOPMENT CENTRES. Infosys has a huge Centre and are planning for bigger development facility in the near future. Facilities available in Mangalore would be far cheaper than in Bangalore.  We need to promote Mangalore in the US…so that our youth from this area get job opportunities in IT related centers which will come up in this area. - Fr. Denzil will speak of opportunities to those who would like to establish offshore development centres in Mangalore.
