D'Souza crowned as Mangalore Queen

May 10- Abu Dhabi: "Mangalorean
Day" in Abu Dhabi, organized by U.A.E's prestigious Konkani
Cultural Organization (K.C.O.) on Friday 10 May 2002, as
promised, proved to be a huge success. The day long event
enthralled the enthusiastic crowd for a day of music, dance,
fun and laughter at the elegant ambience of the Hilton Abu
Dhabi. The event was jointly compered by the two UAE based
charismatic Master of Ceremonies - Mr. Neville D'Souza of Abu
Dhabi and Mr. Manohar Pais of Dubai, who kept the audience on
their toes.
The event started with the K.C.0. Welcome song followed by
welcoming speech delivered by Mr. Bennett D'mello - the
Entertainment Secretary and a brief speech by the President of
K.C.O. - Mr. Leo Rodrigues.


The stage programme consisted of Dance by Abu Dhabi's
Mangalorean Teenagers, traditional dance by adults and a
Tableau depicting mother's love and family beautifully
presented by the tiny tots and teenagers of Royal Music and
Arts of Abu Dhabi.
On this occasion the Web wiz kid of Daijidubai.com fame - Mr.
Walter D'Souza (Walty,Nandalike) was honoured by K.C.O. on
behalf of the Mangalorean Community, for his achievement in
making history in the Konkani world by creating the popular
website. In his absence the honour was received by Mr. Francis
Fernandes Cascia on his behalf.
The Main event of the Day the "Family Fashion Show" added
extra glamour to the occasion. The event had 16 Mangalorean
beauties from all over U.A.E., vying for the coveted crown of
Mangalorean Queen. This part of the show was specially
compered by Neville, who with his usual wit and humour carried
out the proceedings in a professional manner.
In the preliminary round, which was also the elimination
round, the contestants were presented to the judges and
audience for a cat walk on a ramp especially installed for the
occasion, and each contestants were given a rose and gift
hampers.
In the second and final round the contestants were interviewed
by the M.C. on behalf of the judges, who had special questions
for the participants, which were boldly and promptly answered
by them.

It must have been an uphill task for the judges to select the
winners from amongst the beautiful ladies, who had come to the
final round as there was fierce competition.
And finally, Miss Sharon D'Souza, of Abu Dhabi, an
Architectural Engineer by profession, was crowned as "Mangalorean
Queen" By Mr. Sudhir Shetty of NMC Group of Companies - the
Main Sponsor of the event.
Mrs. Suchita Moras, of Abu Dhabi, an Administrator by
profession, was the First Runners Up and Miss Juanita
Mascarenhas of Dubai who is pursuing her studies in USA, was
the Second Runners Up.
The Winners Received fabulous prizes in airtickets sponsored
by Air India and Jet Airways, electronic items house hold
items, etc.

Apart from the above, the event had Novelty Dance, Raffle
Draws, Spot games with loads of prizes, with airline tickets,
electronic items etc. followed by sumptuous lunch.
The grand finale was the hour long traditional Maando, which
kept the crowd dancing to the fantastic songs and music
provided by 'HERITAGE" Dubai's popular band.
On the whole it was a great show, well organized and presented
by K.C.O., who appeared to have planned meticulously and
toiled hard to make it as a grand success and will be
remembered in many years to come.
