Second year in succession the prestigious award Divo Sahitya Puraskar 2002
is presented to the two senior Konkani writers Mr. P. D'Souza and Mr.
Eddie Netto at a glittering ceremony at a specially decorated and named
venue called Francis Fernandes Cascia Matov on 2nd November 2002 at
Antonio da Silva High School Hall, Dadar.
The programme began at 6.00 p.m. with the introductory welcome to all the
award winners, guests and invites. This is followed by a welcome dance by
Miss Preeti Tauro. Thereafter the inauguration of the day’s programme
began with the lighting of a lamp by the Chief Guest Msgr Alexander F.
D'Souza, President Mr. Vincent Mathias, Mr. Henry D'Paula, Mr. Lawrence
Coelho, Editor, Mrs. Benedicta Rebello, Mr. Henry D'Souza, and Mr. Brayan
Rego Immediately after this a one minute silence was observed for the
souls of departed writers and artists.

Divo Editor Lawrence Coelho welcoming the gathering and the dignitaries
thanked all those who have contributed to make this event a success. He
also spoke of the importance to encourage the Konkani writers and artiste
of the community so that they can play an important role in the community
to build a strong Society. This award is an important step in that
direction.
There after Mrs. Winnie Fernandes read out the Man Potr of Mr. P. D'Souza
and Msgr. Alexander F. D'Souza gave away the cash award of Rs. 25,000
along with Man Potr, memento and shawl with flowers and fruits. Mr. Sannu
Bolie read out the Man Potr of Mr. Eddie Netto and Mr. Vincent Mathias
gave away the cash award of Rs. 25,000 along with Man Potr, memento and
shall with flowers and fruits to Mr. Eddie Netto. Immediately after the
presentation of award, both the recipients expressed their feelings and
happiness in their own words.
In a spontaneous gesture, Mr. P. D'Souza donated Rs. 15,000 out of the
award amount Rs. 25,000 to create a P. D'Souza Smarak Nidhi and Divo added
another Rs. 15,000 to the figure making it Rs. 30,000. His this gesture
generated two more Nidhis Mr. Henry D'Paula announced Priya D'Paula Smarak
Nidhi Rs. 25,000 and Mr. Francis Fernandes Cascia announced Francis
Fernandes Cascia Foundation of Rs. 50,000.

The occasion also marked a new change at the Divo editorial and advisory
board. Mr. Francis Fernandes Cascia will be the new Chairman of the Divo
Advisory Board and Mr. Henry D'Paula will be the Asst. Editor and Mr.
Navin Kulshekar will be the Media Director
The Chief Guest Msgr. Alexander F. D'Souza congratulated and expressed his
happiness on the efforts of Divo periodical to encourage the writers. The
presiding president Mr. Vincent Mathias also spoke on the occasion and
assured his full cooperation. Mr. Francis Fernandes Cascia who came all
the way from Dubai to participate in the event also spoke on the occasion.
Mr. Henry D'Paula appealed every konkani family to subscribe Divo and read
regularly.
Mr. Joy Paladka proposed vote of thanks. There was Konkani cultural
programme by children under 18 years under the leadership of Mr. Henry
D'Silva.
Mr. Navin Kulshekar, Wilson Pinto, and Joy Paladka conducted the programme.
