Lay Run Catholic School Gets State Award
for Child Welfare
Normally schools are run by priests and lay
people only donates. Most of the time these schools cater the needs of
elites. Manasa Rehabilitation and traing centre for mentally retarted
children at Pamboor of Shirva Varado of Udupi district has won best school
for child welfare award for child welfare from the Government of Karnataka.
This will be presented on 14th
November. The school runs by a trust of 15 lay people which was founded by
Catholic Sabha of Mangalore Diocese in the year 1995. Dr Edward Lobo is the
Managing trustee now.
This is a residencial school for mentally retarded children. There are 125
children from all over state of all caste and creed, most of them are poor
and destitute. No child is denied admission for the sake of poverty. Besides
formal education the children are taught home science,tailoring, embridory,
flower cultivation, candle making, book binding and phenoyl making etc.
The trust incur a deficit of nine lahhs every year to run the institution.
There are 35 teachers, workers,helpers in the school. The trust welccomes
generous help from donors
