Bishop Gremoli inaugurates Latin CD

An Audio CD in Latin produced by Konkanni musician Shri Apolinaris D'Souza is in heavy demand worldwide. This unique Latin Gregorian Music CD is presented by Ruwi Church to commemorate its Silver Jubilee. This was a great desire of Bishop Bernard Gremoli, Bishop of the Vicariate of Arabia, not to allow the Latin Church music to die out completely. This was a tough challenge turned out as a great success.

Latin Gregorian Music was in existence way back in 400 AD. The hymns like Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Angus Dei and Magnificat which are few hundred years old hymns, been sung by Ruwi Parish Choir in the CD are in the Gregorian way. In addition there are also few hymns in semi-classical style. The selections of the hymns were done in steps like hymns of Praise, hymns of asking Forgiveness, hymns of Thanks-giving, Adoration and Marian hymns making a total of 18 hymns.

Traditional musical feeling and solemnity is added to the background music for all the hymns in the CD to retain the sanctity of the Latin and Gregorian music. The Choral group consists of best singers in Oman, took about six months to learn to sing the harmony and rhythm in order.

The performance of this CD is really superb and well appreciated by His Grace Archbishop Rt.Rev.Giuseppe De Andrea, the papal apostolic Nuncio and Bishop Bernard Gremoli during their recent visit to Oman. Shri Apolinaris who is currently spending his Christmas holidays in the U.S.A. with his sons, was mentioning that music lovers in the U.S.A. were very much impressed by his CD.
