2002 – “St. Joseph Engineering College, is our college - a long standing
dream of all Mangaloreans, and I have come here to enlighten and create an
awareness among the people specially from the Gulf Mangalorean NRI’s.”
said Rt. Rev. Msngr. Fred Pereira – Vicar General of Mangalore Diocese and
Convener of the newly established St. Joseph Engineering College of
Mangalore. He was speaking at a Presentation/Meeting arranged by Konkani
Cultural Organization (K.C.O.) – Abu Dhabi at the India Social Centre on
Monday 2nd December 2002.
Mrs. Leena Fernandes – the Vice President of K.C.O. welcomed the guest of
honour Mnsgr. Fred Pereira and the audience, saying that “2nd December
2002, being the National Day of U.A.E, we are honored to receive Msngr.
Fred Pereira amongst us here in Abu Dhabi, on this auspicious occasion and
it is our privilege to listen to him regarding the dream project.”

Surprisingly his visit to the U.A.E. also coincided with the 42nd
anniversary of Msngr. Fred Pereira’s ordination, which falls on 4th of
December 2002, and on behalf of K.C.O. and all Mangaloreans of Abu Dhabi,
he was honoured by Abu Dhabi based prominent business man and ex President
of K.C.O. Mr. Leo Rodrigues. Mr. Oswald M. D’Souza – General Secretary of
K.C.O. Abu Dhabi, gave a brief profile on Mnsgr. Fred Pereira.

Msngr. Fred Pereira thanked K.C.O and the people of Abu Dhabi for this
honour and for giving him the opportunity to present the various pros and
cons of the college and the whole project.
Later Mngr. Pereira, brilliantly explained and visually presented the need
for the prestigious project, its vision, the mission, the specific reasons
for the Diocese of Mangalore to start the Engineering college, the
admission and fee structure and the cost of the project and how it has
been met through self generation of internal resources and men of
goodwill.

Rev. Msngr. answered all the questions put up by the audience and
mentioned specific names of the persons who were instrumental in helping
the dream project come into existence.
Mr. Robert Rego compered the proceedings and gave the vote of thanks.
The presentation was really worth attending and those who missed out, lost
a great opportunity to listen to Rev. Msngr. Fred V. Pereira.
Konkani Cultural Oranzation (K.C.O.) had taken the initiative to organize
this meeting informing the Mangalorean community verbally and through
