Catholic History Directory released in Mangalore

Mangalore, September 1: A historical directory related to Mangalore's Catholic Community and their business history prepared by Dr. Michael Lobo, 'Mangalorean Catholic Community - A Professional History - Directory' was released yesterday at St. Aloysius College Auditorium.  South Kanara commissioner Mr. A. K. Monnappa presided over the function.  Dr. Michael Lobo's sister Mr.s Leela Menezes released this directory for public.  Under the auspices of directory publisher Camlet Publishers, St. Aloysius College Konkani Association and South Kanara Catholic Association this programme was arranged.

Coastal District Mangalore received many gifts from Catholic Community, which is very important in its history of progress and growth.  Let this directory which contains the history of these great philanthropists shine like their valuable work and become a master piece said Mr. Monnappa in his speech.  Out of my research on Catholic Community, some subject are covered in this directory, in the future, with the help of this community, I will be publishing a research book said author Dr. Michael Lobo in his reply.  St. Aloysius College Principal Rev. Dr. Prashanth Madtha welcomed, Ms. Sabrina Britto compered the programme, Catholic Association of South Kanara vice president, Prof. Bennett Pinto proposed vote of thanks.  Mrs. Lillie Pereira was present for the programme.

 

We should protect importance of family life - Bishop

Kundapur, September 1: Bishop of Mangalore Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D'Souza gave his official visit to Holy Rosary Church, Kundapur today.  He said that we should protect importance of our family life our youth should get right guidance in this regard and this is very important issue which we should practice give them live example.  Love, faith and justice are the important issues which should be implemented by family members.  Trust between husband and wife, love between parents and kids and sacrifice is deteriorating currently.  Western influence is effecting our regular family life and destroying its values.  To stop this bad influence, this is the right time to think about it said bishop in his message to parishioners.

He said that he is very sorrowful to hear the increase in divorce of married couples, these couples are not getting enough information for their misunderstanding and they do not think about their future before they decide to divorce he said.  Emergency marriages, without proper preparations are the cause of this social evil bishop added.  He expressed his happiness towards the growth of Kundapur parish and he said that Catholics of Kundapur should increase their love and compassion towards non-Catholics and build a strong community around this parish.  Kundapur varado priest Rev. J. B. Crasta welcomed, secretary Mr. L. J. Fernandes read report, parish council vice president Mr. Rony Rodrigues proposed vote of thanks.  Dr. Sonia D'Costa compered the programme.

 


 

Arjuna awardee Coutinho felicitated
 


Panaji, September 1: The Goa Cultural and Social Centre felicitated Arjuna awardee footballer Mr. Bruno Coutinho at the Eminent Goans' Day function, organised by the centre in collaboration with the Mustifund High School, Panaji.  This annual function is meant to pay homage to eminent Goans and living legends, besides recognising toppers at the SSC and HSSC exams.  M/S. Eknath Nagvekar, Ravindra Khandeparkar, D. Satish, Pandurang Phaldesai and Ms. Ivette Baretto spoke on the lives of M/s. Bhau Daji Laad, T.B. Cunha, Abe de Faria, Surashri Kesarbai Kerkar and maestro Antonio Figueredo.  Mr. Ramchandra Pednekar was felicitated by Mr. Coutinho, and top-ranking students Ms. Sonia Gurudas Karmali, Ms. Varsha Lawande, Ms. Pritesh Sanzgiri, Ms. Poiya Shetty and Ms. Geetanjali Sardesai were awarded Rs. 1000 each.
