Betterment of
Physically Challenged: Bangalore, November 30: As a part of World Physically Challenged (handicapped) Day on December 3, those who worked hard to have overall development of Physically Challenged in their communities, one institution and 11 dedicated workers have been selected for Year 2002 Awards. Sr. Cecily Vattapara from Mangalore Cheshire Home and Dr. Edward Lobo from Udupi Mentally Challenged Children's Rehabilitation Centre are included in this years prestigious awards. Awards will be given away by Karnataka State Chief Minister Mr. S. M. Krishna on December 3. Each award recipient will receive Rs. 10,000 cash said minister Mrs. Motamma to media people today in media conference.

Centre making
efforts to solve problems of farmers
Moodlukatte, November 30: Defence
Minister George Fernandes said the Centre was making every effort to solve
problems of farmers and growers of arecanut, coffee, tea, rubber and
coconut besides farm labourers in the country. Fernandes, who was here to
attend 'Moodlukatte doddamane kambala' (buffalo race), told reporters here
that the problems of farmers have been compounded due to several factors,
including ban on gutkha and a crash in prices of sugar and coffee in the
international market among others. To overcome the situation to rescue
the farming communities, these problems were now being addressed by the
union Government, he said.
Inter-school
quiz held at Fr. Mullers
Mangalore, November 30: Department of pediatrics, Fr Muller Medical College Hospital, in association with Mangalore Quizzing Foundation organised an inter-school quiz on November 30 at 2:00 p.m. at Fr Mullers Hospital. Schools in and around South Kanara district participated in the competition. The quiz programme was sponsored by ‘Nestle’ and was called the ‘Maggi Quiz-2002.’
