Rev. Sr. Maria Jyoti.

A Social Worker, Soft spoken, Ever smiling face, Always ready to help people in need and difficulties, A heart that reaches out to people of all walks of life, A personality that encourages and lifts up children with special needs,  An exemplary leader and  a true disciple of Jesus are the qualities that I have noticed in  Rev. Sr. Maria Jyoti ever since my childhood days.

Rev. Sr. Maria Jyoti hails from a well-known family in Mangalore and happens to be the child of Late Mr. J.B D’Souza  and Mrs. Mary D’Souza from Bendore Parish.

In the year 1965, She joined the Apostolic Carmel Order at the age of  22,  and started  her humble life of a nun.  She then started  lifting up and encouraging children with special needs by becoming the first principal and founder  of the well-known  School in Bendore Mangalore –St.Agnes Special School in the year 1970.  Over a  period spanning three decades she has not looked back.

And today she has even introduced computer education in that school for those children.

She has a host of other achievements to her credit.  She helped the youth in getting self employed by creating facilities for training them up,  Lifted up the educated unemployed,

And constructed a new school building in the year 1994 to mark the Silver Jubilee.

She has visited The United States, Netherlands, Germany and Belgium to equip

Herself with the necessary tools that are required to gear up and render excellent

Services to the entire society.  She invites educated youth to take up the task of taking care of the needs of special children. For this she has set up an institution which is affiliated to the Bhuj   University, wherin  a person interested in this field can pursue a B. Ed  degree.

The Government of Karnataka has conferred on her with the prestigious Rajyotsava award for her wholehearted support to the entire community in the year 1992. I am sure the readers of  Daijidubai.com will feel proud to note Rev. Sr. Maria Jyoti’s achievements and wish her all the best in all her future endeavors.
