Association of Our Lady of Health Shirva in Mumbai

Mumbai, October 29: Those live outside of their motherland, should keep in touch and think of their community said Fr. Valerian Pinto, parish priest of Shirva Our Lady of Health church.  He was inaugurating Association of Our Lady of Health, Shirva at Hotel Metro Palace, Bandra.  Let this new association bring development to their motherland, Shirva and unite all Shirva natives he said.  Mr. L. Mendonca, principal, Shirva St. Mary's College was the chief guest for the programme.  Mrs. Prescilla D'Lima, Mr. Gilbert Barboza, Mrs. Lenny Barboza were honourary guests who wished all the best to this newly baptised association.  President Mr. Henry Lobo and Mrs. Juliet Castelino welcomed the gathering, Mr. Hilary Barboza proposed the vote of thanks.  Mr. Clement Lobo, Nakre compered the programme.  Treasurer Mr. J. Lasrado was also present.

Karkala, October 29: In NMAM Institute of Technology Technical College, Micro Electronic and Control System Department started Information Technology facility Post Graduate Extension Centre here.  Mangalore University ex Chancellor and Indira Gandhi Centre of Arts member secretary Dr. N. R. Shetty inaugurated yesterday.  To make India number on in Information Technology, technical education should get enough encouragement from the public he said in his inaugural speech. 

Out of nine technical colleges, Nitte college is selected and we are very proud of it he said.  By doing this students in Karnataka have an opportunity to bring out new research and get doctorate degrees in technology he added.  Vishweshwarayya Technical Education University vice chancellor Dr. Balaveera Reddy said that there are several changes made in educational training system of technical degrees and VTE will completely render its support in training he said. 

Two women commit suicide

 

Mangalore, October 29: Due to frustration in life, one woman took poison and committed suicide in Pajeer Grama of Konaje.  Pajeer resident Mrs. Ashalatha (32) due to frustration in her life took poison on October 27. She was immediately admitted to the hospital.  Treatment was failed and she died the next day.  In another case, one woman who was mentally sick, jumped in the well and committed suicide at Pachchanady.  Her name is Rani Elizabeth whose treatment also failed and she died.

Mobile Science Exhibition in South Kanara

 

Mangalore, October 29: Visheveswarayaa Industrial Technology, Bangalore will be holding Mobile Science Exhibition in South Kanara for 7 weeks.  To bring more science knowledge in suburbanite students this exhibition has been arranged.  District's high school and primary school heads are requested to make proper arrangements of their students to take part in this exhibition.  From October 28 to November 3 Puttur; November 11 to 17 Belthangady; November 18 to 24 Moodbidri; November 25 to December 1 Bantwal; December 1 to 7 Mangalore City, December 8 to 14 Mangalore Taluk.

 

KMC to conduct Anaesthesia training

 

Mangalore, October 29: The Kasturba Medical College (KMC) Hospital, Attavar, has announced the starting of Anaesthesia technician course. Candidates, who have passed pre-university (10+2) with science subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology) are eligible to apply, a press release said.  The course is of two-year duration. Air Force selection rally on Nov 9

 

Mangalore, October 29: Indian Air Force (IAF) will conduct a selection rally for technical and nontechnical grades of the Indian Air Force at the Karnataka Polytechnic (KPT) premises on November 9 and 10.  Interview for nontechnical grades will be held on November 9 and interview for technical grades will be conducted on November 10. Candidates should be present at the rally with certificates and three passport size photographs.  The interview starts from 9:30 a.m. Further details can be had from Mangalore Employment Exchange and Airmen Selection Centre, Cubbon Park Road, Bangalore (phone- 5592199).

 

Squad to check plastic trade
 


 

Mangalore, October 29: Under the Environment Protection Act 1986, use of reusable plastic goods in packing food products and manufacturing and sale of plastic items, with less than 20 microns thickness are also banned.  A squad was formed to check manufacture and sale of these plastic items in South Kanara district. Stringent action will be taken against persons manufacturing or selling prohibited plastic goods, said Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner J. R. Lobo in a press note.

 

Meet on trends in research to be organised
 


 

Mangalore, October 29: St. Ann’s College of Education will hold a three-day national conference on ‘Trends on Research Education – A future Perspective’ to mark the decennial of the M.Ed. programme of the college, Prof and Principal of the Department of Post Graduate Studies and Research in Education Dr. Lydia Fernandes said here on Saturday.  Around 200 scholars and researchers from all over the country will attend the conference. Dr. G. Paramaeshwara, Minister for Higher Education will inaugurate the conference with Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof. B. Hanumaiah as chief guest, the principal said.  Sr. Agatha Mary, Provincial Supervisor, Apostolic Carmel, Karnataka Province, will preside over the function while Dr. M. Khajapeer, Vice Chancellor, Karnataka University, Dharwad will deliver the keynote address.
 

Alangaru’s painting exhibition opened
 


 

Mangalore, October 29: “It is possible to master any art within a short period, if gifted with a steely determination and keen interest.” Alva’s Education Trust Chairman Dr. Mohan Alva said. Alva was inaugurating David Alangaru’s painting exhibition ‘Way of the Cross’ at Prasad Art Gallery on Saturday.  He observed that if such exhibitions are organised more often society would be sensitised to classic art, resulting in increased awareness about the various forms of arts in society.

CODP director Fr. Faustin Lobo lauding the works of David Alangaru said the paintings were abstract pieces of an artist’s creativity and often contributed positively to the well being of society. Prasad Art Gallery owner Koti Prasad Alva, who had organised the ‘Painting Exhibition’, was also present during the inaugural ceremony. Gopadkar welcomed the gathering. The exhibition includes 14 Oil paintings, profiles and breath taking pictures of nature.

 

Youth Congress to organise blood donation camp
 


 

Mangalore, October 29: A mass blood donation camp will be organised in Moodbidri to mark former Prime Minister late Indira Gandhi’s death anniversary on October 31, Youth Congress president Bondala Jagannath Shetty said here.  The blood donation camp will be held in the Samaja Mandir and more than 300 youth are expected to participate in the camp, he said in a press release here on Monday.  Various programmes have been organised to mark her death anniversary. District level programmes have also been organised in Moodbidri, he said.

District Congress president Blasius M. D’Souza, MP Vinay Kumar Sorake, Transport Minister B. Ramanath Rai, SK Zilla Panchayath president Jyothi R. Salian, Moodbidri legislator K. Abhayachandra Jain, MLA Manur Vasudev Kamath, KPCC chief secretary Manjunath Bhandari, former MLA S. D. Samrajya and others are expected to participate in the camp.  The Youth Congress has already organised awareness camps in the district about blood donation. The Block Congress presidents have prepared a list of donors, he added.  Another rally has been organised in Ullal in December to create awareness about AIDS. A taluk-level youth Congress meet will be held in January, in which State Youth Congress president Dinesh Gundurao will participate, he said.
